Dashboard app
A Dashboard app report is how you build and host a custom dashboard or app inside Deem Insight. Instead of the standard drill analysis of a Pivot report, a Dashboard app shows a tailor-made web page (a dashboard or small app) that presents the report’s data exactly the way you want, embedded directly in Insight.
Two things happen when a report is of type Dashboard app:
- The report publishes its data as a governed Data feed — a read-only data endpoint that the dashboard reads at runtime (and that external systems such as Excel can also consume).
- The report gets a dashboard viewer where you upload the dashboard’s web files (HTML/JS/CSS) and it is rendered for the end user.
Creating a Dashboard app
Section titled “Creating a Dashboard app”- Open report administration and create a new report.
- Set Type to Dashboard app.
- Choose the data source the dashboard should read from, then save.
- On the report page you will find:
- the report’s Data feed address (used by the dashboard and by external systems), and
- a Dashboard section where you upload and manage the dashboard’s web files.
Building the dashboard
Section titled “Building the dashboard”The dashboard itself is a single, self-contained web page (one HTML file). These pages are typically generated with AI assistance against the report’s live data — the tooling inspects the data source’s structure and produces a ready-to-use dashboard, which you then upload to the report.
You do not need any external hosting or deployment tools: everything is uploaded and served from within Insight.
Uploading and managing dashboard files
Section titled “Uploading and managing dashboard files”In the report’s Dashboard section (also reachable from the report viewer):
- Upload the dashboard files by dragging them onto the drop area or using the upload button. You can upload individual files (for example
index.html, styles, scripts) or a single.zippackage containing the whole dashboard. - Uploading a single HTML page automatically points the report at that page, so it opens by default.
- The uploaded files are listed with their size; each file can be downloaded (to edit and re-upload) or deleted.
- Re-uploading a changed file keeps a timestamped backup of the previous version, so a replaced file can be recovered.
Letting the dashboard save data
Section titled “Letting the dashboard save data”A dashboard can also write, so the user can edit figures in the page and save them: change a budget by a percentage, correct a single row, lock a finished period. That is not on by default. An administrator opens the data source for writing and grants the matching permissions, and the dashboard then writes to the data source’s Data feed — a report’s own Data feed is a projection of the data and is always read-only.
See Writing data from a dashboard app for the full contract, and Data sources for the settings side.
Viewing the report
Section titled “Viewing the report”When a user opens a Dashboard app report, Insight renders the dashboard page and the page loads its data live from the report’s Data feed. A refresh action re-runs the dashboard.
